Hi,

is it possible to cancel/stop/abort a shortcut after it has been fired?
I've tried ESC but that didn't work.

Yes, set a Reload shortcut in Preferences/General/Shortcuts. Pressing Reload (global cancel) shortcut will cancel any running command.
