Yes, set a Reload shortcut in Preferences/General/Shortcuts. Pressing Reload (global cancel) shortcut will cancel any running command.

Could it be that FastKeys is disabled by some conflicting application?
Could you try to introduce a small Key delay in Preferences/Text Expander/Advanced? Any difference?
